Ben Howard keep your head up lyric analyses

Key lyrics and what they mean and how we can use them in black

Keep Your Head Up
Already we have made this part of the song in the narrative about keeping your head up and moving on .
the spaces that have grown between us.
This links with the relationship break down in are story line . this can be show in scene and in the start were there will be a break up in the relationship and they go there separate ways .

With the strength of a turnin' tide
Oh lookin' out at this happiness,
Oh feelin' blind and realize,
These are about been blinded  by love and trying to find true happiness  can be show also by long and extreme long shots to show at first he is alone and needs time to think wich can also be used with the narrative shots .

Keep your head up, keep your heart strong.
Keep your mind set, keep your hair long.
Oh my darlin' keep your head up, keep your heart strong.
All these are about keeping stong and also hits of the look of this individual with the keep your hair long this shows us that it is something we must incorporate to stay true to the lyrics we can show this by showing close ups and getting the look right incorporating the hair and the mind set of this character .

I saw a friend of mine the other day,
Oh I said I had been away, and he knew,
Oh he knew the depths I was meanin'.
And it felt so good to see his face,
We have also put this in with me seeing Liam going to cheer him up and this will be show with two shots to show the unison of these two character’s  and also when it moves on to see all the other friends its about helping your friends able to move on also many close ups to show facial expression and thought process .

All the lyrics

Ben Howard - Keep Your Head Up
I spent my time watchin' the spaces that have grown between us.
And I cut my mind on second best or the scars that come with the greeness.
And I gave my eyes to the boredom, still the seabed wouldn't let me in,
And I tried my best to embrace the darkness in which I swim.
Oh the darkness in which I swim.
I'm walkin' back down this mountain
With the strength of a turnin' tide
Oh the wind's so soft on my skin,
The sun so hard upon my side.
Oh lookin' out at this happiness,
I search for between the sheets.
Oh feelin' blind and realize,
All I was searchin' for was me.
Ooh all I was searchin' for was me.
Keep your head up, keep your heart strong.
No, no, no, no.
Keep your mind set, keep your hair long.
Oh my darlin' keep your head up, keep your heart strong.
Oh no no, keep your mind set in your ways, keep your hair,
Keep your hair long.
'Cause I'll always remember you the same,
Oh eyes are wild flowers, within demons of change.
I saw a friend of mine the other day,
And he told me that my eyes were gleamin'.
Oh I said I had been away, and he knew,
Oh he knew the depths I was meanin'.
And it felt so good to see his face,
Or the comfort invested in my soul.
Oh to feel the warmth of a smile,
When he said "I'm happy to have you home.
Ooh I'm happy to have you home."
And I showed my body to the sea again,
And I laughed at her for bein' so cruel.
And I left these broken bottles, and empty corridors.
And I walked right on through.
And I never, I never dream of you.
Oh honey I never, I never dream of you.
Yeah, keep your head up, keep your heart strong.
Oh, no, no, no, no.
Keep your mind set, keep you hair long.
Oh my my darlin', keep your head up, keep you heart strong.
No no no, keep your mind set in your ways,
Keep your hair, keep your hair long.
'Cause I'll always remember you the same.
Oh eyes are wild flowers within demons of change.
May you find happiness there,
May all your hopes all turn out right.
Ooh may you find happiness there,
May you find warmth in the middle of the night.

the first draft of the story

The story is based around (keep your head up ) as so the title of the song is we have decided to take these terms and other key lyric’s to make the story of Liam AKA Fin breaks up with his girlfriend alone and feeling pretty down he goes of to gather his thoughts and loss .

Once there this will be location two were there will be many shots showing his though process and being alone after that one of his friends comes to see weather he is ok .
Then there will be track shots to the third location showing the unison of the two character’s   to the point were they meet the rest the rest of Fins friends and there will be many alternative shots between them .

Finally point of few shot to show that Fin has fallen in love with someone in love with someone else and then it goes black and white and then ends with the sparks of the fire flickers in the air .

What i thought about the location shoot

I felt the first location shoot went well because we found five key positions that we can great scenery and close shots of the characters also we successfully got high and low angle shots long shots and close ups i felt doing this early we can see more efficiently   what works and what dosent .

Stuart wall theory

dominant this means that you stongly agree with the audio and that you can come away from the footage having it opened  your opinion on that subject matter Evan further , this is about excepting and embrace the messages portrayed by audio.

negotiated is the half way, you except the message that is being shown but still keep your opinions its away of looking at opinions in different ways but its not life changing just more eye opening .

oppositional this is when you do not feel that the message has been truly conveyed by the audio in ethither in a disrespectful way or that they have not understand the subject fully and the way it should of been shown

idea for closing shots

this one of the closing shots i would like to have at the end of the music then pan shots of the actors then finally  long shot of all the lanterns floating away and this will show the unison  of the characters but also show the freedom that is shown in most folk rock .

about copyright laws for music

What copyright exists in music?
There are principally 2 types of copyright to consider when we talk about music copyright. The traditional ©, ‘C in a circle’ copyright, applies to the composition, musical score, lyrics, as well as any artwork or cover designs, as all of these are individually subject to copyright in their own rights, (though when you register, you can include them all in a single registration provided they have the same copyright owner(s)).
The second type of copyright applies to the sound recording itself, and is signified by the ‘P in a circle’ phonogram copyright symbol.

Some of our releases our conventional in the sense that the CDs are commercially manufactured and distributed through Proper Distribution. looking at different genres

textual analysis Munford and sons the cave

textual analysis of Ben Howard only love

Textual analysis of ben Howard only love
First we see an opening close up low to high angle and the music has already come in this is to show the artists and also the high use of lighting straight away then it goes to a series of close up tracking shots of the artist and the bike he is riding to show what he’s doing and waiting for the vocals to come in then it later goes to a performing mid shot were he is sing on stage again with good lighting this is setting up he’s next location that he uses in this video also with extreme long shot of the crowds reaction this is used to show the hole new setting he has in this song .

Next we move on to extreme long shots of the original place in the song this is again showing the location and also helps covey the mood of love and happiness hence the main course line only love which gets repeated over and over this is all stereotypes of the genre fowk as usually they use a lot of extreme long shots and find weather that conveys the mood in the song but also they always have very good lighting in fowk unless they blur in and out between shots

. We later move on to see an over the shoulder tracking shot of him whilst he is riding this is used to show what he is looking at and also to show the movement and peace of the shots. This about mise on sen I have seen in this song is that its all in wide location’s and the location reflects the mood of the song there not a lot in the scenes just the general street to street what I mean it looks like they have changed nothing to make the location stand out or be unique instead they have gone for a very natural look with good narrative shots . Lighting is very key in this video as it dose what most fowk song do and put yellow tints of the camera to give it more of happy and hopefully feel to the song but one thing I have realised is there is many shots wear they have the light bursting through to the shot sort of blinding the camera to give again this real nice happy feal effect that real suits the genre .
Costume the costume is not loud or flamboyant its basic and very relatable for the audience and that’s why I think this has been used .
Use of shots I counted 7 over the shoulder shots
67 close ups to mid shots
88 Extreme long shots or narrative shots
 56 tracking shots
This helps give me an indication of the amount of shots I might have to do and the types of shots I should do . Peace of this song was surprisingly fast compared to most fowk music but then as fowk goes on people like ben Howard are trying to put more of peace but slit at quite a riealasit rate this is something I will have to keep looking at for my project to see what sort of peace I can do it in my genre and depending on the song chocie

editing

Editing again I am still very new to media so I have picked up editing slowly I can make cut films and put them in order but I have not yet really got to grips with the effects that I could put on so for me this is the area I would work on

PRODUCTION (filming)

How have you improved so far and how could you improve further? I have improved by getting used to some of the equipment I will be using at a not very high level. Things to improve further is quite a lot I have spent a lot of time being on camera instead of filming there for this should now be a great chances for me to really get to grips with the filming side using different ways and a equipment to film I hope to become much more confident at trying capture are storyboards with better quality and more efficient .

RESEARCH AND PRE-PRODUCTION (before filming

How have you improved so far and how could you improve further I now very little at the start because I have never done media before but through the course of the year I have lernt how the research I get could be useful to me E.G. dose this suit my genre or is this really marketing towards my target audience as well as just getting a greater over view on film and multi media company’s such as bskyb which is linked to fox or even independent company’s in England such as vertigo so all this info helps me to really understand why this research is really needed and how it can be used in its most efficient and deteld way but on the other I still need to research into more company’s the history and development of those company’s looking at what they do to keep up with the different trends in media also going more in-depth with target audience and understanding the difficulty’s of not having a target audience and how media disstingqwishes its target audience .
